This long holiday

So we have 4.5 months of holiday this time. It sounds like real long, and indeed it is.

Didnt spend much time home, but it was more than just travelling around. Seen new people in new country, get to know more about the people I have already kowm, and of course, found myself that I am taking a real interesting course, whereby there are so many things on this beautiful globe I could adventure on.

Seeing more people makes me to realize how small I am, and how humble I need to be. There are just too many things out there I should try on. It wasnt just looking around, eating and playing, It is a journey of finding myself, to improve myself inside out, and to be, one day, a real better person.

Thanks for the people who helped me making these trips a true fun-filled one. Thanks for those who inspired me throughout my journey. Your true friendship and kindness I experienced are just too.

Gonna miss you guys real hard. For sure I will be remembering, maybe not all, those precious time we went through together. And of course, along the journey I might have done some stupid mistakes, well I dont mean to.

Should leave the airport now, have some sleep and rejuvenate myself before start working. It is just so so good to have some time to relax and rest. :)

Dearest Ah Gong,

It has been three years since you left. How are you doing up there?

It is hard to believe that 3 years have passed that fast. Anything happened in the hospital, on the bed and till the day you closed your eyes and did not wake up again were just like yesterday. Hearing the similar news from friends around remind me of you, and the same feeling, still, strikes my glands. Never fail.

Everyone still misses you. Our love for you does not fade with time. I believe you know this.

Lots of things happened last one year. Through my pray and whispers, did you hear them all? Some are not able to be shared here, but for the weekends we spent there, you must be able to sense the changes and the conflicts we faced. Don't you?

Early of this year, finally it came to the time for me wear the gown and start practicing surgery. It was not an easy task, for I am responsible the lives given to me the moment they lie on the surgery table.

Clinical pathology that is being introduced this semester reminds me of your condition 3 years ago. I know that thinking of these will not possibly bring you back, indeed, impossible to. But I wonder, would I be able to mark the changes happen in you if I took this course 3 years earlier than I do? Would I be able to voice my opinion so that condition might be reversible? Or I am just too arrogant to trust the clinicians in the hospital, for they have tried to sustain your life longer yet not enough for you to witness the moment I take oath and earn myself the title of "Doctor"?

Life is unpredictable, indeed.

Sister is now engaged, and became Mrs Liew (lol). The same guy you have seen before. Haha.. How is him to you? You never say a word, I know that you have your point of view, but you just never fail to support us in giving us tons of trust and blessings.

Everyone misses you.

And you know who is on the top of the list.

Were the housekeeping job done well last week? Cleaned your place so that you could rest well, peacefully. Wish that you are sound and doing good there, for everyone of us wishes the same for you.

It's a great idea that McDonald's Malaysia comes out with the nutritional information for the food served, beverages and even all-time-favourite desserts like Sundae. And the best part is that all the related information are pasted on the net, as well as printed on the leaflet that used to be put on the tray when the food is served.

However I believe less than 5% of the Malaysian craving for McD lunch would have a peek into it. We just don't care.

Hmm so today I was too jobless and thus I had a second look at it, and I couldn't find what I wanted to know the most.

So the nice brilliant beautiful CNY 2011 has gone. At least to me, the break is about to be gone.

The last day of the break, burried my head in the books. Anaesthesiology. BLLLLLAAHH.. New year shouldn't read books la. Anyway. Life goes on, time to back to reality.

Should explore much more about the beloved D3100. Time for practical has gone one month nearer. Shouldn't miss any nice view that I could possibly take it. Spent a lot on accomodation and the tickets, so must must make this trip cum practical to the fullest.

Been reading Lam Yuet's blog for some time. AND this is no good.. Cuz it triggers my very deepest sensation that I WANNA GO TRAVELLING!

So it was back to two weeks ago when my beloved phones almost drowned. For about 10 days they were shut off, and thank God they are now back to normal. Couldn't deny that it's kind of frustrating when you wanna get someone asap, but you have no phone in your hand. Or when someone needs you right now, but they just couldn't reach you.

The very first message regarding CNY I received wasn't from anyone on the friend list, but our PM. What a surprise.

Jay Chou's concert! LOLX! It happened like N-years ago when I was still Form 3! It is still available online wey!

Way back to year 2003 I think? Foo-yoh I won two VIP tickets by sending in 3 sms-es participating the contest. It's like a slogan writing competition, and I just sent in for fun. And few days later I got a phone call from cantrememberwhere and said I won the tickets!

The first thing came to my mine wasn't "Wah I am so lucky"! It was "dhuh, 骗人的啦". I wasn't that lucky and I seriously didn't believe this. Till the day I got the ticket at the side entrance of Stadium Merdeka, damn I seriously got it!

Aiks, after then I just didn't manage to win any other contest like this one. Spent RM 0.60 to send in 3 pathetic sms-es and I won myself two VIP tics which worth for more than RM 650!

Okay enough of dreaming, back to pharmacology! Cha yok!

Fifth-Sem-Gonne-End

In 3 years time, I will graduate from this Vet school (*pray pray very hard*) and enter the society, with the glamourous title Dr. in front of my name.

So I am now in my fifth semester of studies. Those little memories during my first semester - the course night, beloved Prof Tengku, the first Animal Agriculture class, the first King Cobra I ever touched, etc etc - are still lingering in my mind. Except the Management lectures which bored me to hell, and the Titas those stuff that drove everyone of us crazy (dhuh, not the syllabus itself, but the tiring lecture hours which last until 9pm sometimes). Now, I do just need to stay within the faculty, and start dealing with those courses 150% concern about Veterinary Medicine.

This might not be something very good, as we just stick around with those same faces we gonna meet the next 3 years, or possible in future after graduate. Good thing is that we are now doing fully on our focus, from the little creature that lives within the animal (hmm, the virology and histology) to the bigger things like parasites and animal itself.

I am not sure whether I will be prepared to be a good veterinarian upon graduation, yet I would say my interest in this subject has been keep increasing since I started the course. I did not do well in my Bacteriology and stuff, but yeah I agreed that I allowed that to happen. And I am gonne stop having that kind of playful attitude, thinking that "I ain't too bad huh" etc.

There will be matter of die or alive when a case is gonna be presented to me in future. There is no retest or repeat stuff once the animal stop breathing. Nothing gonna bring the beautiful creature back, unless you do your best while you still have the chance.

Wow such a long "complaint". Whatever.

Oh, just had my Virology Lab Test, able to answer most question, though they might not be the perfect answers, at least I did my best in preparing and answering. Just in case I forgot in the future:

this is a thermal cycler (not PCR Machine)

and this is Centrifuge machine (hehe got it right), not centrifuger. =D

Will have Pharmacology retest next monday, study week and another 2 weeks for final exams. Non stop exam this semester. Hope my stamina keeps me till the last, and yeah!!

Has been abandoned this blog for few months.

Laziness = the biggest obstacle. wtf

There were few reasons made me to stop renewing my blog, yet down few months, I realized that I should have jotted down certain things that happened in my life, which are worth to be writted down, and kept in my memory.

I didn't have a very gifted brain which can freeze all those times in it, so I believe that I would need a space to write down what I have gone through, and allow me to view back as time goes by.

I referred back to my posts on Vietnam trip when friends asked some help from me regarding it. That was the very first time I travelled at a country backpacking, with no-one there whom I know. Packed up some courages and knowledge (of course money), we left to Hanoi for 8 days. That was the first time, and thus the journey shall continue. Second time, third time...

I hope I would still be keeping the motivation to continue blogging. To write down those things I would like to remind myself of, and to share with you all. Such as the week I spent in the heaven, credit to SEATRU volunteer programme. =D

DBKL Volunteer

So this happened long time ago, way back to early of May this year.

We a group of 5 went to volunteer in DBKL horse unit. Had a lot of fun, and rest a lot, A LOTTTTTT. Basically we "worked" for about 1 hour, the rest of the day we spend our time roaming around, ride on the horse under supervision, walk the horse, and on two days, we walk the horse for the OKU children who came here.

I would say it was pretty fun (not the curi tulang part though). Cleaning the horse paddock was not an easy job I would say. You might need a little bit of passion, as well as a little bit of patience to stand the dust, and the smell (poo, and urine!!).

This Pamulang was one of the most adorable. The one on the left was my Sifu, who taught us how to control the horse, and not allowing the horse to control us! XD However, it seems the latter happened most of the time.. =,=

This wasn't the first time I ride on the horse, yet this was the very first time I ride on horse without people leading the horse. I CONTROLLED THE HORSE ON MY OWN wey! And we could take our sweet time to walk the horse and canter around the compound! The most limiting factor, would the lovely bright hot sun. Dhuh, riding for about 20 minutes, both me and the horse were sweating so heavily that the sweat kept dropping from my forehead/his shoulder.

We were also given the chance to try on the kereta kuda. Damn fun! Yet there was a more funny incident happened. Hmm *secret secret*. Couldn't unleash to public. Wahaha..

It was a pretty relaxing job, and I would really love to go back to volunteer if there is any slot available which and squeeze into my schedule. The host by Huixuan's family was pretty a big credit for this volunteer task, as Guai Leng Gou, Tong Sui, super nice homecook dinner, unlimited wifi, astro, her sister's brilliant piano skills, etc etc. Argh miss the time so much!!

Can't wait longer for the holiday to come!! =D

How are you up there?

There are a lot to say. There were too much to share.

You happened to have another grandson-in-law, and going to have another grandson soon. Pretty soon. Maybe two weeks later.

I, finally, went for a holiday, backpacking. It was really great to walk on your own, and experience whatever that come to you. You see on your own, and you learn.

Some accidents happened, but dont worry everyone is still in one piece and moving on. Stay healthy, this would be the best, and the only you wish for for everyone of us dont you?

Earth Hour is back!

It's cool when came to recall back what we had done last year during Earth Hour on 28th March 2009.

Me Mel Nezzy Kavi Tasha and Crystal had our dinner at Satay Kajang, without knowing that this shop was one of the supporters of Earth Hour 2009.

At the moment we reached, the lights were off and there was a candle placed on every table. D*rn romantic huh. [just that there were no roses provided aiks!]

So this year, Earth Hour 2010 is back! Let's switch off the lights ramai-ramai on 27th March 2010 and help to reduce our carbon footprint through this little effort! All your contribution is counted!

I love this break, though it seems short. Just a week.

Compare last year, this year we can really enjoy this holiday for we have no test to sit for after the break, and we have only ONE assignment to hand in on the second day after the semester reopen.

New year. A lot of things need some changes. So do I.

Got pretty bad results last semester. Need to brush up my memory especially on the tough Anatomy III. Academically, there is a big room for improvement. Last semester I seemed enjoy my life too much that I almost neglected my studies. Without involving actively in college and faculty activities, I spent most of the time going home or shopping or watching drama etc.

I deserved for the bad results. And I know I can do so much more better. So, since I have found out what's the reason, I should face it and take some prompt actions [cuz first test is just around the corner!] !!

Christmas Eve.

Just got home from McD. Not to celebrate the Holy day, just that Dad and Brother wanted to go for it. Had few times of McD when I was away for practical last few weeks but anyway, no big deal.

A normal day. Play the same game the whole day, the same game. Eat and play. Then eat again. Has been doing this since I come home. How nice. Gonna miss this very much when semester reopens next week.

Wish to blog about my practicals in Sabah and Sarawak but my beloved lappy broke down when I was in Sabah, and it is now in the icu. So, maybe I will try to post when I get it back in home.

Or maybe not, thanks to my laziness. =)

Spend my Christmas in BP this year, not Singapore. Simple reason - I wish to stay home a lil' while longer. Spend only about 10 days at home in this semester break, it seems too little for me. Longer holiday, maybe? =)

Finally, it is time for home. Will be leaving Kuching in 10 hours time. And I am now, already in the airport, waiting to leave.

Can't wait to touchdown on the land, and heading to a place which I name it as my home.

Not to say tired, but I do wish to get back home and get recharged. Met lotsa people, helpful people. During the practicals and journey in Sabah and Sarawak, I have you guys along.

Have done with my Management in Livestock Production practical (Ruminant). And I am now in Kota Kinabalu to have my short 4D3N trip here. Self sponsored, self directed.

Did see many things in the farm, and had a lot of durian, A LOT. The most I feel appreciative is we get help from a lot of nice person - Mr Yap the farm owner, Mr Y K Voi his son, Ah Guang the supervisor, Justine and Sylvester the practical students, etc etc. Without you guys helping us, we might end up died of boredom in Keningau. Your hospitality shown are truly appreciated!! Thank you, so so much!!

Being little lazy recently..

So, I didn't update my blog for quite a long time. My apology on that..

Sat for my last paper for final on 12.11.2009, Anatomy II. I know in my heart an A is an impossible mission for this subject, just aiming I wont die too badly in it, that's good enough.

Right after the paper, went for a short vacation in Genting and Bukit Tinggi. The nice weather and lil chill in the air were nice. Relax myself there, before I leave again to Sabah and Sarawak for a month [28 days be more precise] to complete my off-campus practicals.

Visited Japanese Village. Fed the hungry fish. And they seemed to like it a lot. =)

Took horse riding again. The horses here are much more handsome. Much more.

Went to Genting for a magic show, since able to get free tickets. Why not.

The show was just so-so. But anyway, I, finally, got myself to enter the casino de Genting. Ouch I expected too much on it. It is just so small, and people inside are allowed to smoke. Cis. Benci. I couldn't understand why there are so many people keep contributing their hard-earned to Mr Lim. I didnt enjoy much in the casino, because the coffee served inside doesn't suite my taste, AT ALL! =(

Got myself back to my home sweet home on Sunday's night. Spent the whole day to unpack all my stuff brought back from college besides tidy up my messy room. Thanks to Melissa and Mr Chinwee, I had a great day on last wednesday. Watched two movies in a day.

Days without learning and exam can be boring. Seriously. I don't mean to have hectic life with never ending assignment dues, but being too free doesn't seem to be so good too.

At least, we do have something to do, to push us to move don't we.

After 5 days in my beloved Batu Pahat, I gonna say goodbye again. See you a month later.

I spent two weekends in hostel!

So what I did?

On 4th October, we went to Zoo Melaka to observe the animals which are being kept in captivity. We were assigned to observe the behavior of a species, and my group chose giraffe.

The environment there wasn't as pleasant as I imagine, but the management provides a better place compare to the zoo I did my practical last year (can't tell =X ).

We did our observation under the super hot sun. Sacrifaction for education. =D

Under the extreme weather, one of my coursie went crazy, and his showed his normal behavior right in front of us..

We reached hostel at around 7pm something. Thanks to that I didn't have the chance/excuse to go back. =(

And last week, we went to PERHILITAN to observe the behavior of porcupine which care kept under domestication. Though I had been to the place, I wasn't exempted. And thus, another weekend in hostel. see here

The bus journey itself took us around 3.5 hours. The blo*dy THREE AND A HALF hours we spent in the bus, doing nothing but just sitting there and saw trees of different height passed by us.

And along the journey, there was no toilet available. So by the time we reached the place, everyone rushed to ease themselves.

These were just a quarter of the them.

As usual, the visit started with briefing.

And guess what? We spent about one hour in the place, and we headed back hostel.

By the way, this weekend, I will be free from ANY PRACTICAL, and thus, I will be home! =D

Dinner @ Chili's

Had done my Test 2 last week (Thursday). Thinking of rewarding ourselves for the hardwork and perseverance, we went for "luxurious" dinner in Chili's MidValley after the test.

Just to try out our luck, we chose not to use the normal route we used to take.

And lady of luck wasn't on our side that day. Ended up in traffic jam on the wrong road, and missed the junction that we supposed to turn in.

We took around 45 minutes to reach the place, and d*rn we could actually reach there within 15 minutes.

We were very excited over the dinner that we were going to have. Chili's Restaurant & Pub. From the pictures and info get from the internet, we thought that this would one of the nicest dinners we ever had since we came UPM.

I ordered apple juice, and I thought it would be as nice as the one I had in Marche.

But it disppointed me.

Triple play. Too salty.

Salad. Not fresh.

Main course : Lamb chop. A very no-no to try!

Dessert :Chocolate Brownie. So so.

So in conclusion, the food we had that day were not so nice as we expected, and the amount of money we paid deserves much better food.

Or maybe, we just didn't order the "correct-and-should-try" food in Chili's.

Little update

Life hasn't been so smooth as I wish it to be.

Rains came out of sudden. Today. Yesterday. And the day before.

Anyway, life isn't a bed of rose. So I should give no comment on that. In addition, I do prefer sunflower to roses. *wink wink*

Today is 29th Aug. 2 days later we are going to "celebrate" our 52nd National Day. Yet I have no feeling at all on this, except a little bit upset for I can't get back to my own nest [quote Adrianne] for 3 continuous weeks. Will be going to SPCA Ampang this coming Sunday, Kuala Selangor on next coming Sunday, and a field trip to pig farm on the next next coming weekend. There goes my beloved weekends.

Anyway, gone through few events last few weeks. Short brief on that.

We had our D-day on 16th Aug. Quite tiring. But compare to DVM3 seniors, I was just a small little ka-li-fei. Without them and their huge effort, this is not going to be a success! Check out tons of picture in Facebook here.

Things didn't go on the way which I thought they would be. People's action. People's behaviors on certain issues. People's thought on certain issues. People's perspective. Maybe I shouldn't put too much assumptions, with the silly hope that everything is going to be fine.

Or, I am just too silly to believe in perfection. Little imperfections in life are the spices to the dull process aren't they? If things just gonne happen in your way, so where can you get the sparkle?

Sincerity doesn't seem to apply on everyone in every incident. Everyone has his or her own mask to put on, for everyone of us has our own role to play. After the sketch, it will be taken down and reality takes over.

When day comes to dusk, tired soul tries to find a place to fall on. Yet that's just an instrument [or getaway] for the frustration to be released out. When you are consumed, the seconds run very slow, and your silhouette could just be a disturbance rather than a nice beautiful scene.

Farewell? Dream on. Not worth even the fictional letters. Memories eclipse, and what you have done corrodes, the whole page is left blank. And what to do next? Cry for the darkened daze and the flaming fumes, for you just deserve that.

With meditation, I think that there's a problem with the scale I comprehend.

A weekend in hostel

Ya. For the very first time in this semester, I spend my weekend in k17. This means, I will not b able to get online for 18 hrs a day, keep refreshing my Facebook page, do long post for my blog, Google things out, read people's blog etc.

It sounds pathetic. Yes. But somehow, it is good! =)

It means I can concentrate better in my studies, and hopefully can get myself on track, and no more putting myself in holiday mood!

However things just don't happen in the way you would like them to be.

I have no Streamyx, but I can come up to Mel's place to steal a little bit of time and get myself online.
I have no facebook, but I have my Grey's Anatomy DVD.
I have no more homemade Nescafe, but I have my 3in1.

And to make thing worst, I have flu now.

Test on next week, D-day on Sunday [which means another weekend in k17], dues of assignments.

I will survive, and I will do more post when I got myself home. =)

A day, which is so shitty.

I lost my beloved Mickey water bottle. The theft in faculty seems to like things of different range. We should seriously take care of our belongings and valuable even though in our own faculty. Huixuan's bag. Ben's bag. Vivi's wallet. Unknown's camera. Somebody's hp.

And now, my water bottle.

And in the afternoon, I had my practical class.

It was not the animal bleeding causes me to be this sad. It was not that I was wrongly blamed to be the one who did tagging [and I did mine one excellent, nice, perfect though].

I got scolded by the lecturer I like so much. So, so much. I did read up the notes the night before. I did pay full attention in you class, and God knows how much I like your class, how much attention I gave.

Things just happened. Maybe I should just say I am not ready enough.

There must be a goodbye after the Hi.

Thanks to Bahoi yesterday, I had a really nice sleep. We woke up early in 6am something, to catch the cab to airport [our flight at 930am].

This was the staff in Viet Anh Hotel. He was so nice, helpful , and spoke understandalbe English.

Bought brother Vietnamese coffee 3in1 as requested when I was in the airport.

Argh it was really hard to believe that 8 days flied.

Ending of this trip doens't seem to be too bad, because it shows the starting of another trip! =)

We reached Hanoi Railway Station at around 6am. We then took a cab to go back to Viet Anh Hotel.

Because we didn't do any reservation, thus we had no choice but to take smaller room instead of the larger one. Poor Yeow Hong had to sleep on the folding guest bed for a night.

After the nice breakfast, Yin and Hong back to the room and had a nap, while I went to online.

At about 11am, our journey began. Instead of taking cab, we chose to walk so that we can really appreciate every little thing that we can see in this Hanoi town.

Unlike sitting in the cab, we could snap shot any view we like, any place we passed by. For example, when we crossed a not-so-busy road.

We walked all the way down from Old Quarter to French Quarter.

In French Quarter, there found a lot of embassies and franchises and banks and 5-star hotels. LV, Esprit, Hilton, etc. We found nothing much interesting because we were too poor to enjoy all these. =(

We planned to have a nice French food for lunch. Yet, the pricing was too high for us to afford. And we ended up to have our lunch in a look-quite-nice restaurant called Paradise.

But personally I felt the service and food served here were just like h*ll. The beef steak was not nicely cooked, the onion ring was too dry, the chicken rice tasted like duck rice. Nightmare. Moral of the story: Sometimes you have to pay slightly higher to get a better quality food. Seriously.

After then, we walked along the street with no specific destination. While walking, I found that the E&E engineers in Hanoi are superior.

Such a complicated line huh.

Since we had a really bad lunch, we decided to have a hi-tea after buying tickets for Water Puppet Show. I felt like having a cup of sweet sweet Pepsi, while Yin would like [so much] to have an icecream. To reward ourselves for materialising this trip, we stepped in KFC. Hehe. We knew that the pricing in KFC Vietnam will be higher than that in Malaysia, yet we just would like to try something which we could trust in.

And guess what? The Pepsi taste so so good, so does the icecream! =D

Found a message book in KFC for travellers, and this fella draws really well!

The interior design for the KFC Hanoi was really much different from that I have in my hometown Batu Pahat. It was just like a Western Restauran wasn't it?

Climb up to the second floor, we could even see busy road of Hanoi, as well as the never-ending car/motorbike horn.

At about 630pm, we headed to the theatre nearby for our Water Puppet show.

The seats provided looked like those we had in cinema. And it was air-conditioned!

Though I just couldn't understand the language being used in the show, I enjoyed watching them "playing" the artifact. It was just so cool that the little puppet could move freely in the water. Awesome!

However, that's just my very own definition. To certain people, this show was too boring I think.

By the way, the show just last for 45 minutes. The followings were the "performers" behind the screen.

After then, we just hanged around the street nearby. They were just like Petaling Street in Malaysia. Selling those "branded" goods. Nike, Adidas, Crumpler, Puma etc.

At around 8pm, we walked back to Old Quarter to have our dinner. We planned to have it at those stalls by the road side. We didn't do this in the earlier days because we were scared of having diarhoea. And since today would be our last day in Hanoi, so why not?

Me and Yin ordered Fried Rice noodle wit beef, and Yeow Hong had his beloved pigeon panggang.

Maybe we had to learn to accept people's culture on food. The fried Rice Noodle was..and the beef was... Didn't really enjoy eating this hehe..

Besides the food stall, we felt like trying BaHoi the Hanoi-made beer. Initially we would prefer to go to the foodstall and have one. Yet due to the experience just now, so we did prefer the one in bottle.

After purchasing, we went back to hotel and enjoy drinking =)

Though Yin was still under age, she drank! *ehem ehem* And personally I felt the taste quite nice to have together with Oreo.

Well let's see what we bought today.

Ended our day by watching soap drama and listening to Eason Chen's songs. Hmm nice day.

I slept so well, thanks to alcohol. ^^

Had great days in this holiday.

Cameron Highland, Redang, Vietnam, JB, Sarawak.

Time really flies. I couldn't believe that ten weeks fly so so fast. Maybe holiday is never be enough for a lazybone like me.

A little tired physically, but I am energised mentally. Thanks a lot to dr wong and jess. Holidays seem great with the time spent in clinic.

Need a little bit of time to rest.

Transformers 2

Recently everybody is so hot about Transformers 2.

I like the Transformer 1 so much, and thus I went for the Trans 2.

Gosh I fell asleep twice in the cinema. It was so so boring compare to the first one! I just can't stand it, and I slept. And guess what? I am not ashame of that. It was really too boring to me.

I am so sorry to the Trans 2 Fans, especially Thaddeus.

Though this movie is not so nice and too long, I will still suggest people to go for the original copyright, and watch the movie in cinema. However, we have people who like Transformers so much but just couldn't afford it, and just take the pirated one.

This fella has trans-FOMER-s instead of trans-FORMER-s.

Maybe original Transformers is too far for us to see in Chicago Auto Show 2009 [by Jaysern] or maybe just too expensive to make it affordable to us.

Vietnam Trip - Day 6 : 13.06.2009

A wonderful day shall start with breakfast, delicious and nutritious one.

And I am so glad I had one in the Homestay! What made the world better was that: I had a double-stick Nescafe! Wow it was simply too awesome~

The breakfast so nice that even butterfly would like to join us.

After the breakfast, we were worried where to go and, how to go. Thanks the Lang the tour guide for the Indons, we followed them to trek down the mountain though we didn't sign for any tour package.

Another nice day with good weather. No rain luckily. Sky was clear, and the view remained the same stunning and beautiful.

This time we had nothing to worry, because we just needed to follow the tour guide to trek down the mountains. We saw different kind of things compare to that we did the previous day.

Compare to the day before, we were not feeling that tired because we had rest at small hunts in
different spots.

In some of them, we met little children with no shoes or no shirts to ask candies from us. As adviced, it is not a good idea to give them sweets because this might cause them to have bad teeth. So, Yusita brought the pancake prepared for the morning breakfast along and gave them.

We hoped this would turn out to be the better way.

We had a number of minorities come along with us, not that they would like to trek, yet they were actually trying to sell us the handmade thingie from them.

Their bracelets didn't attract me much. But that was a different story for the earrings they were wearing.

Huge. So huge and heavy! OMG! Wouldn't they feel imbalance?

Fine. Even the buffie would have to wear as well.

The elders we met were really strong and too much beyond awesome. Some of them were bringing wood sticks or kind of on their back, but they walked even faster than I did on flat ground. Their steps were so fast and firm. *salute* What impressed me more was that some of them were wearing no shoes!

Stop at a waterfall side before having our lunch. This one too small to be compare to the one we had the previous day. It was beautiful though.

We had to hold our hearts when we were crossing the bridge.

But all these just made this place even more beautiful, because it is just being so natural.

Stop at a hunt and had our lunch. The soup was a little bit too salty, but the egg was really nice!

After the meal, we trek for 10 more minutes and being board on a mini bus heading to Summit Hotel in Sapa [the place we would wait for the bus to bring us to railway station tonight]. Though we had to pay due to the reason that we didn't sign for any package, we were too much willing to do so because we felt a little bit exhausted.

It was a little bit early when we reached hotel. So we went down to the town and visited the weekend market.

They were actually selling almost the same things, just that who would be the lucky one to get customers to buy from them.

I bought something, and accumulative they cost me less than RM15. CHEAP!

We left the hotel heading to LaoCai Railway Station after dinner.

The cabin today was much different from the one we had on our way here. The cabin was warm, and the toilet itself was...

Initially we thought that we got cheated. Yet, this was the service got for what we paid for. Second class cabin was hosted by Vietnamese government, and thus the cleanliness was not guaranteed.

A long long journey back to Hanoi, yet I back with a lot of good and nice experiences!

Vietnam Trip - Day 5 : 12.06.2009

Didn't sleep very well on the previous night. But anyway, that's not the worst for the whole trip. Hehe.

With very sleepy eyes, I left the cabin and tried to escape from the people-flooded railway station. But things always doesn't come out to be the way you would like it to be.

It is a rule in the railway station saying that "No ticket, no outside". However it is stated in Vietnamese Language and I, don't know about that. I kept the ticket at somewhere but I just couldn't find it that time. Tried to escape and run away but, shamefully, failed.

Lucky enough I have the bus drive [a local] to save me out from the station without paying extra to buy another ticket. Thank him, and God.

Well as I mention in the previous post, we paid for our ride from Lao Cai Railway station to Sapa. So the driver, the so nice driver saved me from being kept at a place which I knew nobody with no one understand my language. Wow how sad.

When we reached Summit Hotel, we decided not to take a tour from them because it was bloody expensive, and we didn't feel we would be getting a trip worth for what we paid. We went down the hill to find a place for our breakfast. Eventually we stop at a restaurant hosted by locals and had chicken noodle soup for breakfast.

It was big in portion [I mean for girl]. Yet I just didn't really like the smell too much. Yeowhong seemed to like this much. By the way what made this breakfast so bad was that: they didn't serve drinks! And, I didn't start my brand new day with coffee!

We didn't come to a conclusion for our trekking trip in Sapa, so we tried to ask from agency to agency about the package they offer.

We were almost taking a tour offered by forgot-which agent. Almost, I mean. In the end, we didn't and chose to go on our own!

We bought a trekking map from Tourist Information Centre and we then started our journey! Yes we BOUGHT from TIC! We should be given one for free don't you feel that? Why do we have to pay? Have you ever heard of "pay to get yourself a Transit System Map"? Well. Fine.

We trek down the hill from the other side and enter Cat Cat Village. There was no rood sign showing the correct way to reach our destination - Lao Chai Village. And the trekking map was simply too useless, and had no much information that could really show us the way, and our location.

The sceneries along the road when we did our trekking were too awesome.

Though I am not living in busy city with super hectic lifestyle, I just hardly bring myself close to the nature, and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

Though it was so nice to have almost-complete silence in the middle of the mountains, the hot sun was really killing three of us. Yet I do prefer the sun to rain because we would have no place to hide if it was raining.

Nice flowers. [I shall repeat, nice FLOWERS]

After trekking for about an hour, we stop at a waterfall nearby, tried to cool ourselves down. The splash-down of the water looked nice, and sounded so nice.

We saw a lot of people here enjoying the wonder of nature. And we thought of asking somebody about the correct direction, because we met a diverging road. However, communication broke-down happened between us and the locals. Luckily we met a girl who understood English, and showed us the way.

We met a number of minority wearing their traditional customes. They were still to shy to be the focus of the camera, and in fact I took some photos of them secretly.

It was far in my Form 3 Geography syllabus which thought me that we could actually have paddy field on the mountain, instead of having them on the ground.

It was really, really watery. Couldn't imagine how would it be if it was raining.

We went through a lot of muddy places and I did my best not to dirty up my shoes.

But I failed.

So no more worries, I moved on with stronger steps. We came to a place which was so so high, but the view was really stunning!

We were up the hill, with nobody. These might just being greenish trees and boring rocks to some of you, but the chirping sounds of the unknown species, and the serenity were both couldn't be snap-shot in.

We had one good way to entertain us whenever we felt so helpless and tired, which might be asking direction to the locals. Some of them didn't know how to communicate in English, and the only phrase that we two parties understood was "Lao Chai". Most of the time, the conversation between us would be like this:

Anyway this was fun though.

With help of two little children who brought us through short-cuts, we reached Lao Chai Village at about 4pm, after trekking for about 5 or 6 hours. The journey was so so long that I still couldn't believe that I had got it done. They led us to a "shop" selling drinks, and without hesitation we sat down, and had rest!

Going up and down the mountains, I just did it. I, proudly to say that, I DID THAT!

Now we faced another challenge. We had to ask for a place to stay, and the shop-lady didn't understand English!

We tried to draw out what we would like to express, yet she still failed to understand. Thanks to the appendix in Lonely Planet, we tried to make sentenses using the simple phrases and words so that she could understand us.

And she really got what we would like to express. How good.

But the bad news was that: There was no house/homestay available in LaoChai Village, and the nearest homestay location was in Ta Van Village. It located 8++ kms away from LaoChai Village, and the walking journey might take us about 2 hours! Meaning we might be walking in the dark wei!

When we were just about to start walking to Ta Van Village, we heard the motorbike engine sound, which made us so so hyper! The angel was on the way man! We asked about the fare, and without hesitation, we agreed!

Gosh we didn't need to walk!

The motorbikes moved on the little tiny narrow road [right in the picture]. And, the drivers speed. Thanks God I am still here. Seriously.

We were being brought to a homestay place, which provide us with dinner and breakfast.

The hosts were very friendly, though we didn't know how to communicate with each other *language barrier, again*. Luckily we had a tour guide who was here with other tourists that signed for a homestay package.

The house was big and spacious enough to fit in three of us and another 7 more.

Though this place situated far in the deep mountain, entertainment could also be found here.

It was around 530pm when we reached there. And the hostess served us French Fries as hi-tea. How nice.

Maybe you guys couldn't imagine how horrible was the sun. Picture says a thousand words.

We had a nice meal for dinner. The spring rolls were so so nice that I just couldn't stop eating. *hehe*

As a credit to us, the hosts served us the Rice Wine they did themselves.

It tasted like hard liquor, and I just couldn't drink even half of this. Too strong me. If it was a cup of strong concentrated expresso, I might be asking for extra. Just being caffeinic, instead of alcoholic.

The Indon friends we met during the homestay introduced us a card game called "Saboteur"

Though it was just a game, people just used their brain out to figure out who were the saboteur, and who were the goldminers. Who should I block and who should I unblock?

Good games indeed. And Saboteur won only once. LOLS

A very tiring yet challenging and exciting days. Challenging - in such a way that we did trekking on our own without any local tour guide for 5 hours, and our accomodation and food were still unknown when we started our way because we could hardly find a foodstall or kind of. Language barrier was another element that made the situation worse. Exciting - because we went through all the challening parts, and met nice friends.

Woke up really early this day. Around 5am, I woke up just to see the sunrise.

However, the sky was not clear, and I just couldn't see where was the East. How sad.

By the way, the nice breakfast made me feel better to start the day.

Well maybe the breakfast doesn't look really nice here, and a little bit blur. Gonne thanks to the freezing cold air-cond that freezed my lens. It took about an hour to "recover" from the very coldness. SWT.

Well after the breakfast, we went ride around while waiting to load tourists from other cruise.

It took us about an hour to reach harbour. A mini bus came and picked all of us up together with another "seven" to have lunch [inclusive in the package]. Why "seven"? Because the tour guide didn't count another three or four children who were about four years old. Meaning, we had another 11 more person to share the mini bus with. Well.

This Viet House - the place we had our lunch - located halfway up the hill, and we could had nice spectacular view of Halong Bay while eating.

The dished served :: Pumpkin soup, salad, crispy flour fried shrimp, Vietnamese tea, stirred fried vegetable with garlic, coffee [order on my own], fried fish fillet in tomato sauce, fried Ha Long spring roll.

This bar-restaurant was furnished and decorated in traditional materials. They might not looked so natural, but the combination was comfortable to me.

Yet the only that made three of us hyper was this:

Camwhoring wherever whenever it is possible. =)

The "seven" who joined us in the bus were so fun to talk to. We chatted about our journey next, and they told us about their plan. Just a simple talk, but I enjoyed.

In fact I planned to zoom in to Yeow Hong [middle left], yet these two girls behind me started posing so I just...Well.

Thanks to the talk I had, I didn't sleep that much as that I did on the day we depart to Halong Bay. I found there were actually a lot of greenish paddy field by the road side. It was, so, so beautiful.

Took a short nap, and we reached Viet Anh Hotel at abour 430pm. We had a shower and a brief rest, and prepared for our next journey: night train to Sapa!

We went to Ladybird Restaurant, Hang Buom Street for dinner. It situated nearby the hotel, and was having nice feedback from travellers. In addtion, this restaurant is recommended by Lonely Planet as well.

This little restaurant was having good decoration, yet I wish they could turn their air-cond on. We were sweating when we were having our dinner. How bad is that?

By the way, the food served were tasty, and the coffee was just *hmmm* *slurrp slurrp*!

We left to the railway station at about 7pm, and our wallet got drained again by the cab driver. Fine.

Because our train was scheduled on 950pm to leave to Sapa, so we had plenty of time to take tons of photos before our departure!

I found people were having kind of party at the platform. How funny is this.

Well in fact when we booked our tickets through Viet Anh Hotel, we got a coupon-alike instead of tickets. We had to redeem this at the railway station on the date of departure. When we were there in the station, a girl approached us and asking to see our coupon. We thought she wanna do some cheats on our ticket or snatch it or kind of. So we went to the counter and asked about, for god sake she was the one we supposed to redeem our tickets. SWT.

We were wondering the effectiveness of the system. And, we had story on this on our way back to Hanoi from Sapa.

We paid for the second-class ticket, yet we got upgraded to first-class ticket for free. Thanks to Viet Anh Hotel. The cabin was so clean, spaces to keep our bags, and we even had the never-turn-on tv!

After the breakfast, we hop on the bus and left to Halong Bay!

The mini bus that picked us up was reasonably nice. I just slept all the way from Hanoi to the harbour. *hehe*

It took us around 3 and a half hour to reach the harbour. There were so many people waiting there to get on their cruise. And, this was ours.

The harbour was so so busy, and fulled with cruise heading to Halong Bay. From the very luxury type to small wooden boat.

There were 7 westerns and 4 Japanese on the same boat with us. After boarding, welcome drink - orange juice - was being served.

And then followed by nice seafood-ish lunch. *Yumm Yumm*

It was so enjoyable to have nice food together with nice view of Halong Bay. And of course, leng chai leng lui made the atmosphere much more better.

There many many limestones that made this place so amazing. Well the guide told us about the stories and legend of this place, but I was just too not-interested-in.

This was one of the limestones being introduced to us - the Fighting Cock.

From this angle, I think they looked more like kissing rather than fighting.

We then went to Tien Cung Curve, a curve that filled with salactites and stalagmites. We had to climb up stairs in order to go in, long long stairs.

It was very nice to enjoy the nice cool air inside the curve, and it was a good place to get away from the hot sun as well.

We took about 40 minutes in the curve. So sad that we couldn't enjoy the chilling cool air for longer time..

After then we board back to cruise, and went kayaking!

Of course we were not kayaking using this.

The fees for kayaking were include in the package. We went round the island around, and it was really a tough job for me to do kayaking. Went through a hollow karst and floating villages took us about an hour time! And in fact, me, Yeowhong, Jiayin and Alex, we four were the last to reach the cruise. I guessed others were really pissed off while waiting for us to board. If not mistaken, we were just being given half an hour to do kayaking.

After boarding, we left to Ti Top Island. In the schedule, we supposed to swim there and have panorama view at the summit of the island. Yet by the time we reached, it was late in the evening and we were given only 30 minutes to stay there.

Being too lazy, I just stayed at the beach, and didn't climb up the hill. "I hate this" spirit came to me at that time. LMAO

We didn't visit the Cat Ba Island, because our packages were to stay on the cruise for a night. Went back to cruise and had my shower, because I thought our programmes for today had ended.

Who knows, the day for Jiayin and Yeowhong had just started.

I was just "brave" enough to do jumping on the beach. Guess what they two did with the other 7 westerns? They jumped down from the top of the cruise [3 storeys height I think] without life jacket! And both of them are NOT good in swimming!

Look at the bottom left. It was Jiayin in the action.

The Derek-look-alike [I would say] led Jiayin and both of them seemed very enjoy in this. If not because of the jelly fish, I believe all of them will jump and jump and jump, again, again and again until god-knows-when.

I behaved like a coward - I didn't do this. And guess what? I am not regretting. Haha. That's beyond my limit, too far out from my border line.

Dinner served was good enough. And I just like the French Fries so much.

After the dinner, as usual I had a cup coffee and enjoy seeing the view at the top level of cruise. Did chit chat with the Westerns, and we shared about the travelling experiences. Great night to have them to chat with.

We didn't have much communication with the Japanese because they just sticked to their people. Or maybe it was our fault that didn't start the conversation with them first?

Went to bed at about 10pm. A good-night with nice air-cond.

ps :: I just couldn't feel any unstable-ness of the boat though we were in the middle of the sea!

A good day starts with a nice breakfast. After check out from the Bamboo Hotel, we went directly to the Viet Anh Hotel to check in. Why did we act so fast? Because the nice desk-person promised to give us one extra breakfast though we would just stay for a night! How nice!

The room itself was really nice compare to that we stayed on the first day. We had Nicer bed, heater, extra blanket, hair dryer, fridge and even security box!

Settled down, we then started our journey on the second day! We departed at about 830am something after breakfast, heading to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

We were not allowed to bring camera in, yet I did. *hehe* When we reached, it was about 1015am. The desk-person entertained us very badly by saying "Faster go in and come out faster! We would be closing at 1030am!". She threw us a very bad face, and tried to "sell" us the handbook though it was supposed to be given free to tourists! Anyway, we were getting used to be drained and asked for higher or to pay extra.

We had to walk a lot in order to enter the mausoleum, and climbed up a stairs to enter. The wall looked so thick to protect Uncle Ho from any disturbance. There were 8 soldiers standing by the corpse, yet we could still see the whole body of Uncle Ho clearly.

We had to walk fast because people kept moving in. It was not a really good idea to stay inside for too long because we were not allowed to take pictures or make noise. In addition, with the so-so-freezing-cold air-cond, watching a well-preserved dead body was really...Well maybe you have enough courage to do that. =)

There were a lot of securities in the compound. I couldn't imagine how could they stand the hot weather with the thick uniform.

There were plenty of stalls selling souvenirs. And there were just too much of pople trying to "invite" us to ride on their trishaw. Felt so tired entertaining them. Instead of rejecting, we did posing for photos!!

After coming out from the mausoleum, we went to visit the famous One Pillar Pagoda which located behind HCM Mausoleum. It was weekday, but we could see crowds of people there. From teenager to elders, from little baby to school children in uniform.

There was a museum located near the One Pillar Pagoda. We didn't go in to visit because we were not so interested in knowing the stories behind the war. We were not that kind of history fan, and thus we moved to our next destination after taking photos.

From HCM Mausoleum, we took cab heading to West Lake and visti Tran Quoc Pagoda. We were really lucky because it was about to noon when we reached there, and it was about to close for lunch time.

The interior design, as always, had some influences by the Chinese culture.

The garden was clean, and the shrine looked nice as well.

At about 12pm, we left the place unwillingly, due to the reason that it was closing for lunch break. Aiks.

We then had a rest before moving for our lunch.

Jiayin was finding where to go. And eventually we went to Seasons of Hanoi which situated in Quan Thanh Street.

The interior design was one of the nicest that I had seen in Vietnam.

I ordered fried rice with roasted pork, and it tasted so yummy. The noodle soup and the chilli prepared were also worth trying. Though the prices were little bit too high for budget backpackers, I would recommend this to those whom wanted to give him/herself a nice treat before leaving Hanoi, or get tired with the local food.

We stayed for about two hours in this restaurant to enjoy the nice air-cond. It was like a big huge cup of plain water for us who had travelled for 5 hours in dessert [well I am exaggerating].

After the good rest, we continued our journey to Hoa La Prison Museum.

This complex was thoughtfully preserved, and restored as a museum. This visit was one of the worth-goings.

There were a lot of things being displayed there, and most of them had the stories behind.

There were also videos showing the stories of the prison. We stayed for quite a long time in this prison, because it was just too interesting to explore! At least, we got more for what we paid for! And the information came with translation in English. Unlike that in Temple of Literature, most of the instructions were given in the language we don't really understand.

Saw a lot in this prison, and we even got free water from here. *hehe*

Left the prison, we then went to visit St Joseph Cathedral which was another must-visit place. It is now still in use, but too bad the day we went to was not Sunday.

Stepped inside made me feel like I was in European country, visiting the old cathedral located somewhere. Though it is far too incompatible to Sagrada Família, yet having this building in the city of Hanoi makes it more special than it is.

I think it would be really grand to see people filling this cathedral. Though, I believe people will be sweating a lot because there is no air-cond int he cathedral.

When were there, we could only see a few workers staying in the cathedral, and waiting to give helping hands to visitors. They just stayed there quitely without disturbing the silence. I love it, so so much.

Decoration and architecture were really, really nice and amazing.

When we were on our way going back, we passed by a temple which is not stated in Lonely Planet, or even on the net. Maybe this temple is too "not-obvious" to be discovered.

I do prefer this temple because it is just being natural. Not much renovation, and no tourist at the time we went there. It felt so much different when I went in. Good place to pay a visit.

We found another thing which surprised us.

This tourist information map was so high tech that it was equiped with touch-screen, detailed map and multi-language! It could be found around Hoan Kiem Lake, and you could try to search and "play" with it if you would like to.

After hanging around, we tried to search for food in Old Quarter. At first we planned to go to Cha Ca La Vong which was recommended by Lonely Planet, yet we then found out that the service provided was really bad. It was written in the book saying that we could get dishes at about 70 000 VND, yet when we went in the shop we were given a card saying that "we serve only one dishes". And the price was 100 000 VND per head. Without asking, they put the rice noodle and chopsticks and vegie on our desk. We were surprised, and decided to leave. The waitress didn't show up with good face and attitude or trying to explain anything. Without hesitaing, we left and didn't turn our head back.

Well I think we were not enough to turn our head back, because we might get scolded for that. LOLS

So we walked down the street, and eventually settled down in a Thai Restaurant, which is Baan Thai Restaurant at Cha Ca Street. This turned out to be a good place for our dinner, though we met people smoking in the air-conditioned room.

I didn't come out with any picture for our dinner there, because my battery was dead. How sad. All the pictures were with Yeow Hong, and I will try to upload when I get them.

Satisfied with the Thai Food having in Vietnam [sounds funny maybe?].

Was packing for our trip to Halong Bay the next morning after taking bath. When I was doing that, I accidentally found that..

TV in Vietnam actually has Chinese series! And it was showing 篮球火！I never know I would be that happy to see Taiwanese series! Maybe we could hardly find people talking in Mandarin in Vietnam, I felt so warm when I was viewing this.

Bringing the warmth, I went to bed after checking mails.

A good day, with a lot of nice but unexpected things happened!

Vietnam Trip - Day 1 : 08.06.2009

In order to get cheap air ticket, we booked early flight which departed at 630am. It was a nice day with very good weather on our departure day. Sunny-greenish view welcomed three of us when we reached Noi Bai International Airport.

Upon arrival, we searched for Hanoi tourist map. This was essential for us as backpackers, because it would show us where to go, and how to reach a place. The detailed map was available for free at the airport, but most of them were being hidden. We were so lucky to meet a tour-guide-look-alike and he showed us where was the map hid at!

After getting the map, we took a mini van to travel to the Old Quarter. It took us around 1 hour to reach Old Quarter, a place we planned to stay. When we got down from the mini van, we were surprised with the never-ending horns. This was just the beginning of the story. On the following few days, we experienced lots more about the attitude and special behavior of the Vietnamease on the road.

We walked around Old Quarter to find out a place to settle down. We went to few places which most of the blogger/travellers recommended on the net and Lonely Planet, but most of them were just too expensive to us. Finally, we chose to stay in BamBoo Hotel at Hang Be Street, which offered a room for 3 of us at USD15, with NO breakfast provided. However, they did have shared computers provided for guests.

After then, we went out for our lunch at 69 Bar-Restaurant, Ma May Street. This restaurant is one of the recommended places in Lonely Planet. The chicken-with-lemon-grass is nice, and I like the coffee a lot!

Got ourselves full, we started exploring Hanoi!

Thinking to sign up for a tour package to go Halong Bay on 10 June 2009 and buy train tickets to go to Sapa on 11 June 2009, we walked down the streets to ask from agency to agency about the prices to compare. At the same time, we walked in to hotel to find a better bargain to spend our night the next day.

After searching for about an hour, finally we found that Viet Anh Hotel, Ma May Street gave us the best room rate, which was USD 20 with breakfast for 3 inclusive. We were not so tight in our budget, thus we didn't limit ourselves to take hostel or low-range hotel which might offer us at USD 3 or even lower.

We did ask about the packages for Halong Bay in Viet Anh, and the desk-person guaranteed us she gave us the best price compare to the others. We didn't take the tour imediately though, because we wanna try to search for better one.

We then left Viet Anh Hotel, and took a taxi to our first destination, Temple of Literature in Quoc Tu Giam Street. This temple was one of the highly recommended places among the travellers, and it was being introduced as a temple with well-preserved traditional Vietnamese architecture.

The designs for the buildings were nice and very "Chinese Style", yet I didn't really like this place, maybe I put too much of hope and imagination for it. It was said that this place was found in year 1070, and renovations were made in year 1920 and 1956. However , the painting and blocks made everything looked unnatural.

Steles with names of those successful at the imperial exams were set there. It was too "well-preserved". Anyway. Let them be the way they used to be.

There was a small temple "in" this Temple of Literature for people to do worship. The great and nice sunlight made this temple looked so nice in picture!

I believe this temple had great influence by Chines culture. Red color, Chinese wordings, Phoenix and sticks. Yet I was wondering, what was the use of this in old times? For the candidates to pray at the last minute so that they could pass the exam? LOL.

This place was a great place to take pictures, especially in the nice day. I couldn't imagine if it was raining. Opps how bad it would be.

We stayed here for about one and a half hours, enjoy taking pictures. When we stepped out from this place, the hotness was killing. We could feel the warmth till the end of my spine, and all I need was sit under the shade of big huge trees.

Saw these people was actually waiting the bus at the middle of our way. Can u see that they were actually trying to avoid the hot sun? For those who are planning to go to Hanoi, do prepare for the extreme weather there. It was summer when I was there, and it might be raining cats and dogs and cause flood to happen in the other seasons. Do check out the weather forecast carefully, and plan your trip wisely.

Feel like I was exaggerating? Maybe just that I couldn't use to it. Found that there were children playing badminton though it was 3pm in the afternoon!

Due to : 1. The hot weather, 2. The lesson from the not-so-worth-going Temple of Literature, we sacrificied Fine Arts Museum which located nearby Temple of Literature. We went for a hi-tea to cool ourselves down, and tried to let oursevles get use to the weather slowly.

Passed by a cafe nearby. Without hesitating, we went in because there was air-conditioning! And in addition, this Cafe Smile looked nice, even the security welcomed us with broad broad smile!

The air-cond came together with an old-but-still-functioning fan. Wow both me and Yeow Hong loved the nice cool air.

Though this was the place which saved us from hot-to-death, I don't really recommend this place to those who wish to have a nice tea break here. JiaYin ordered Jasmine Tea and the waitress served her Mint Tea. And the Mint Tea tastes like..Colgate drink. I am serious. Feel free to try out, if you would like to. In addition, the waitress took away the fan after like..ten minutes later. Pissed.

After the break, we tried to find few agencies to compare about the prices for packages to Halong Bay. Yet none of them could really compete with that offer by Viet Anh. We were then heading to the train staion, thought of buying third class tickets to Sapa directly, which didn't provide us beds but wood bench, to save on our budget.

-- > Notes :: In Vietnam, the first class cabins are all booked and owned by tour agencies. Second class cabins are owned by the government, and the cleanliness is not guaranteed. Third class cabin, might be a nightmare to non-locals.

After asking about the price, we decided not to buy the tickets first, so that we could have time to consider about that. We then took a ride going to Long Bien Bridge to watch the sunset.

It was said that the designer of this bridge was the same for Eiffel Tower. How far is that true? I doubt.

This bridge lying on Red River, and connect two parts of the Hanoi City. Cars are restricted from using this bridge, and only motorbikes are allowed to go through.

We went at the wrong side of the bridge, and the sunset view was being blocked. Yet, I could still see a lot of things such as: -

1. People doing exercises.

2. People who were chatting.

3. Train crossing the bridge.

4. People dancing on the railway track.

5. And even, people trying to jump down the bridge??

Alright I was just joking for the last picture. Though motorbikes and train passed by and made a lot of noise seriously, I could find people sleeping, soundly under the track.

Maybe he was too tired.

After viewing the nice sunset here, we heading back to Old Quarter to continue searching the packages and train tickets. We took a really long time to go to Sinh Cafe which recommended by some bloggers, yet the price offered was still relatively high. Thus we decided to sign up the package offered by Viet Anh Hotel, and book train tickets through them though the price we had to pay was USD1 higher than that offered by Sinh Cafe.

After confirming about the trip to Halong Bay, it was then the Happy time! Tien Com came out as our final decision, and it didn't let us down! The tofu and spring rolls were nice, and guess what? I found Fanta, which had been disappearing from my life for more than ten years, here!

If you are not a Fanta-fan, you might have another choice for drink.

The first day turned out to be quite tiring. Went back to Bamboo hotel after dinner, and had rest for my journey the next day!

Vietnam Trip - Prologue

It was back to year 2006 when I first got on a flight, and travel to the other part of the world.

My family and I flew to Brisbane, Australia to attend my brother's graduation in UQ. We went there for about 10/12 days, and I really enjoyed the trip there. Without signing to any tour plan, we went to places where we would like to go, stayed as long as we wish for, and picked and chose the restaurant we preferred.

Thanks to the arrangements and "research" done by sister and brother, I didn't need to worry about any single little thing, from accomodation to transport. And for the most important is that, I didn't need to think about any expense for my trips there. Daddy paid for almost all the bills, even the souvenirs I bought home for friends.

Due to the reason I couldn't get an offer for JPA scholarship to study abroad [which means I can indirectly explore another part of the world without paying on my own], my dream to go around is getting hard to be materialised, except doing backpack to travel at the least cost.

When I first entered UPM, my ex-housie JiaYin told me about her trip to Bangkok before entering university. She did her backpack trip together with another 3 friends, and had great fun there. After the trip, she went to Cambodia with her relatives. She showed me the photos she took, and shared with me the stories happened in these two trips.

At the same time, I was reading a book called "彳亍地平线" written by two Malaysian travelers. They travelled through Asia and Europe for two years without going home, with only knowledge, courage and money along.

For the previous two reasons, I found I should, and have to try myself what's the feeling of doing backpack. [I believe]Most Western teenager would have the experiences of traveling around on their own without signing any tour package. I think, I could as well, since I would enter 21-year-hood in year 2009.

With all these beliefs and will crushing together, added in the promotion done by airasia.com, I booked a ticket to Hanoi together with JiaYin as my travel-mate.

Greeting from Hanoi!

I have just reached hotel in Hanoi few mins ago from Sapa.

The train I had yesterday was a big nightmare, and our ticket has got changed, down grade from first class to third class maybe. Met two vietnamese in the same cabin, who chatted til so so late in the night, made me couldn't sleep at all.

The young girl turned on her two alarm, and just let them rang without turning them off.

Well. This is not my country.

Btw, had nice trip in Sapa. And I will definitely do long long post about my backpack in Vietnam.

Let's Wii!

Have you guys ever heard of Wii Game?

The Wii is a video game console released by Nintendo. I do always feel like trying out this thingie, but I do never have the chance. The price tag of which does scare my heart out, and thus this cool stuff is still being absent in my home.

Thanks to the generous Batu Pahat Mall admin people who organized the Wii Bowling Competion which require NO registration fee, I tried on it. All I could say will be, WOW!

Though I did my best in the game, but I was eliminated from the game after first round though I got the second highest mark compare to the other 30 participants! Why? Because the organizer didn't count the win-lose by considering the score, but they put two contestants for each game, and the one who scored higher in the game would enter the next round.

Well, I met the champion who scored the high 247. My score was 171. Well, I lost to him and got eliminated though the highest for the previous few sections was 167! >,<

As a beginner who tried on Wii console for the very first time, I would dare to say *proudly* that 171 was a good score indeed. I lost for a very unacceptable reason. Fine.

Today went to shop shop for friend's birthday present. As usual, I went to say hi and bye to ex-colleague and friends from Vincci. While doing so, I found that there was a Wii Game going on at the same place organized by the same group of people! But this time, the rule had been changed, that was the highest scorer would win the price.

I wrote down my name, took part, and with the angel smiled at me, I got this.

The RM50 cash voucher! Yea I won the game by beating everyone else! Haha! This RM50 was just dropping from the sky! *Happy*

However, how nice would it be if it is a cash ~~voucher~~.

It has been two weeks since I left Chagar Hutang the beautiful place.

The relationship between 12 of us is not weakened by the distance, but getting closer and closer, thanks to the advance in technology. We talked about the turtles, people, sceneries, experiences, just everything. Memories we shared together were just too deep in us (I would say that).

Going snorkeling did really spice up our trip to Chagar Hutang. I am not saying that volunteering in turtle conservation programme, observing them and writing down the datas are that boring, but the "inactiveness" of turtles during daytime does really make us the turtle volunteer free to death.

The crystal clear blue sea water is really amazing. Clean, and beautiful. There were some instructions that we were requested to follow, and one of them was "Safety First". In fact, some of those who did know how to swim wore double just to make sure they are really safe.

Well I was just kidding. They were just posing saje.

However, we were being asked to take care of each other while snorkeling. Safety came before everything, and we did really enjoy the round island trip.

With the greatness of the sea living things [sea cucumeber, "Christmas tree", turtles etc] still lingers vividly in my mind, I was shocked by a piece of news this morning.

乐极生悲? Maybe.

To people [like me] who doesn't know how to swim, or even to those who really knows how to swim, DO WEAR life jacket provided whenever it is needed. Malang tidak berbau!

A week in Chagar Hutang Marine Turtle Field Station IV [end]

It was really hard to say goodbye to dear friends, as well as the blue sky and clear water. Too short to have them for just a week! Words just couldn't express fully how I feel. Staying away from the jungle of bricks and metals was really good for me. This trip came at the right time and I really glad to have these super nice members with me for the whole week.

Besides, I felt proud because our slot beaten the previous few slots by getting more than a thousand signatures!

Good times having with you guys will be here in me. Thanks for the great moments we shared together!!

Beyond departure from Chagar Hutang / Redang Island, we had our lunch at KFC before hanging around.

The first stop was Pasar Payang. First thing that welcomed us was this:

Stall owner stared at us, and I felt she was just about to chase us away from her stall. They were selling turtle eggs like nobody's business. I just couldn't imagine how could they consume the little cutie? CRUEL!

A week in Chagar Hutang Marine Turtle Field Station III

Thanks to my beloved teammates for the Turtle Volunteer project, I had a really nice 21-st birthday celebration in Chagar Hutang. First time had a "celebration" by the beach, the so beautiful beach.

So let's back to 15th May 2009, we went to the Long Beach for the "Say NO to Turtle Eggs" petition. The hot sun was really killing, and even the fish thirst to death.

Ok I am just being too *lame*. =)

Well we were being told to gather near jetty at around 230pm to board the boat back to Chagar Hutang. Munkeong being the person whom I trust the most *cough cough* (?? do i ?? XD)was accompanying me in the souvenir shop before we moved to the jetty. In fact I stop persuading and asking for signatures after lunch since I was able to get more than a hundred signatures. Answering phone on my birthday was nothing too bad right? I would say yes. Hehe. [Yet being informed about the presense of Prof Chan, I put the phone down, unwillingly =( ]

When we reached the jetty, we met Harry the beach boy informing us that we would have to board the boat at another jetty. So with no doubt, I moved to the destination as told. On my way, people surprise me with something in their hands.

How nice they bought me a birthday cake! I would have a cake on my birthday, though I was on the so isolated place Chagar Hutang!

Though having nothing else besides the cake, I really enjoyed the simple but nice celebration from you guys! *touched*

This blueberry cheese cake would be the best cake I had ever had. Thanks for this, as well as the "Hawksbill cake".

My 21st birthday was really special with you all with me. I thought this would be a lonely birthday, you guys proved me I was wrong!

A week in Chagar Hutang Marine Turtle Field Station II

Basically, life in Chagar Hutang was really relaxing. Though in some days we were assigned to stay up in night for night duties, in the afternoon we were so free to do anything we like. Volunteers were allowed to do snorkelling before 3pm. We could snorkel till our a** burnt and nobody would stop you. The whole nice water would be yours, and if you are lucky enough you can even see turtles or even shark! People like me - couldn't swim [erm, phobia as well] - could sleep or do some reading in the hammock. Enjoy the silence and nice fresh air doesn't sound too bad too.

On the second day upon our arrival, Adie aka my "sifu" brought us for round island trips and snorkelling at appropriate sites. Thanks to Sifu, if not I might be staying in the same place without moving at all! Nice Nemo, beautiful Christmas Tree, sea cucumber etc etc. Sad that my camera is not water-proof, or I could post a lot of nice photos here!

Since we were there as volunteers, thus we were assigned to stuffs that volunteers would have to do. One of which is to clean the beach so that it could be free from rubbish~ To prepare ourselves workin under the super hot sun by the beach, sunblock is a must-must, as well as a big big hat.

Usually, we did nest check in the evening to make sure that the nests were undisturbed and monitor hatchling process. We would be helping experienced staff Mann, Adie and Harry in some "ka-li-fei" works such as writing down data, snap shot, and most of the time tolong tengok. Aiks, we were not research assistant, so don't blame us for doing nothing much helpful yea? =)

If we found eggs hatchled, we would have to keep them to release them back to the sea during night time. This is to ensure them free from their predators.

I feel so lucky that I am able to see sea turtle doing egg chamber, laying eggs and sand-bathing right in front of me! Oh ya, I did leave my kiss at the *ehem ehem* 龟头 as well!

To help save the turtles, a "Say NO to Turtle Eggs" campaign has been launched. As part of the job as volunteers, we went to Long Beach to collect signatures physically. To get signatures from people there was not that tough as imagined, yet how many do really stop trying/eating turtle eggs after leaving their signatures? I don't really like the atmosphere in Long Beach. It is over developed, and full of people. I prefer the silence in Chagar Hutang. Maybe I am just being too "persendirian".

Peaceful Chagar Hutang

There was one day I spent my night by the beach, together with Meik' E. Embraced by the fresh air, I started my day with my beloved Nescafe. Sitting there to wait for the sunrise was really awesome. No one was there disturbing me (us?), everything lied peacefully. I like it, very much!

There were some days we had the "motivation" and "initiation" to prepare our lunch/dinner. Thanks to Val and Becca, we had nice meals for lunch and dinner!

As credits to the volunteering programme, we had the chance to have guided Turtle Rock climbing, as well as unguided river hiking. For the former, we had the chance to look at views of the beautiful Laut China Selatan at different "stations". I felt really happy because I was able to get up the rocks without stopping, and didn't behave as that in Penang. I didn't say "I hate this", at all! Haha..Proud that I did make some improvements in hiking. LOLS.

We stopped at a place quoted "Prawn Spa" during river hiking. First time trying this, and I felt really geli!

Oh ya, if you feel really bored to death, you can play sepak takraw as well!

A week in Chagar Hutang Marine Turtle Field Station I

I knew about this volunteering programme from our second year seniors, and they praised this programme and quoted it an unbeatable-nice trip. I got attracted, and signed up for this programme.

In fact, at that moment [I mean AT THAT MOMENT], I did agree to join the programme because the fee required is just RM300 with one-week accomodation, food, boat trips to and from Redang Island and within the island, as well as a cert and volunteer T-shirt inclusive. Wow this is super "dai"! Well if I were to stay in the very lao-yah resort in Redang Beach and have activities such as snorkling and boat trips, RM300 could only offer me a 3D2N trip there maybe? And, I will not be able to see Sea Turtle laying eggs right in front of me!

My slot started on 9th May 2009 and ended on 16th May 2009. I couldn't believe these 168 hours flied faster than I could imagine. Meeting a lot of nice and friendly people and learning different things from them made this trip more awesome than any trips I have ever joined.

The crystal clear water that welcomed us was really stunning. It was like free from pollution, and I could even see the coral and fish under the water. Besides, the beach is so d*mn clean too! Chagar Hutang is beautiful!!

Tourists are not allowed to land on this beach because this place is quoted as Turtle Sanctuary. Only we the volunteers and staff are allowed to be there to work on our activities. We can even stay by the beach in the middle of the night to monitor turtles landing and nesting. You can even do yoga by the beautiful beach if you would like to!

A lot of thanks for those who remember my birthday, for those who sent in because they saw the reminder in Facebook or Friendster or whatever, for the volunteers who celebrated my birthday with me and bought me a cake in Chagar Hutang, for those who remembered but didn't send me anything. I have you in me, and I do believe you have me in you.

I am no longer a child, and I suppose to be mature. Am I prepare for that? I doubt.

Whatever.

I was in Chagar Hutang attending a volunteer programme for sea turtle on this meaningful day. I had people around me with nice delicious cheese & blueberry cake. I had "Hawksbill" with me, I had birthday songs from 5000++ kilometres away, I had tons of sms-es and calls sent in though I was not able to see/answer them immediately, the most important was that: I HAD FUN! A LOT!

A lot of things had happened in the past one year. I grad from my first year studies and am now moving into my second year [which mean I am now a SENIOR >,<]. I had lost my beloved Ah Gong. I met a lot of people, and learnt a lot from them. I lost some of my friends, though I thought they understood my reason behind the action. I become more hardworking in coming home during weekend. I become more lasier in doing stuff which I suppose to do.

I wish I can be more considerate sometimes to let go things easily, and don't take too much things in heart. May my dreams come true.
